Thringstone Stone Wall
Donation protected
I am from Friends of Thringstone. We are trying to fundraise to get the wall near St Andrew's church rebuilt. It fell down in October 2022, and following exhaustive research, calls and discussions, it transpires that it is not in the ownership of anybody, but is a stand-alone wall, built in 1911. It is a historic feature of the village, and so in June 2023, volunteers removed all the fallen stone from the public footpath to the churchyard, to save it being taken away to the tip by the county council, as it was blocking the public footpath. We have now received quotes from qualified stone masons to rebuild the wall, and these have come out at £7000. We would like to save the wall, but are not, as a group or as individuals, taking responsibility for its ownership or maintenance and repair long term. This is a stand-alone funding project to get a historical wall rebuilt for the village.
