Throw Down for Kyler Pallister
Donation protected
This fundraising effort is set up for all donations to go directly to Kyler Pallister.
On March 24th Kyler was life flighted to Salt Lake City where he was diagnosed with a form of Leukemia that is rare and challenging to treat. His health care team has determined he has Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) and includes a rare chromosomal mutation. Unfortunately, in climbing terms, this is like a run-out 5.14 version of blood cancer whereby there is an excess of immature white blood cells made by the bone marrow.
Kyler is currently being treated at MD Anderson Cancer Treatment Center in Houston, Texas. He is lucky to be directly cared for by a team of five doctors that specialize in Leukemia, led by Dr Kantarjian. This specific team is considered the world leaders and are the tip of the spear in advancing Leukemia treatments.
This is a long road ahead; treatment will be lengthy, very involved and span a time period of at least five months.
Kyler's team determined he qualifies for a new clinical trial treatment. First, Kyler will undergo an advanced trial which will include one to two months of chemotherapy, which he started on Wednesday, April 7. Once the doctors assess that Kyler is in remission, he will undergo a stem cell bone marrow transplant. His two brothers will be candidates for donor matches. If they are not, the donor bank will be the next option.
When the bone marrow transplant is completed, Kyler will need to spend 100 days of outpatient care and monitoring in close proximity to the Cancer Center in case of complication. His family and partner, Fats, will be caring for him 24/7 during this period of time and supporting him with nutritious food (like wild Alaska Salmon!), ensuring he heals completely.
Housing for Kyler and care givers, local transportation to and from hospital multiple times a week, plane tickets for care givers, high quality food, supplemental medical care, and coverage for medical expenses are just some of the financial concerns anticipated over the next five months.
Here are a few ways you can help:
1. Donate to this Go Fund Me Campaign
2. Find out where you can register as a potential donor for bone marrow or blood stem cell.
3. Contact Rachel James to support sending wild Alaska salmon and seafood to Kyler and his caregivers during their time Houston.
Thank you for taking the time to help our brother in his time of need.
