This is Michael Thum. I was diagnosed with sub-acute combined degeneration of the spine back in March. This causes systemic numbness (neuropathy), spasms, loss of control of the left side of my body, among other unfortunate symptoms, meaning I no longer drive.
I blammered into a few things at night, and caused a wreck with another vehicle, so I hung up my keys.
I've been working with great therapists, and in their estimation, my proprioceptive senses are severely diminished, but getting better incrementally with their help. I'm lucky, they care, all of my clinicians do.
I'm in the fight to get better, but as my neurologist has stated, this process may take a few years. I've explored, but as of now the NIH has no clinical studies relating to my state.
I've always been special.
With that said, being hopeful, this would be an opportunity to reconnect with some folks. I quit facebook in '10...kinda creepy to me and of little value.
The $1400 would keep me in this boarding house for 2 months, while I work through a grant/work program with Hope Inc, to find sutible work.
My disability claim with Social Security is a vapor. I really have one of the top 100 lawyers in the country working it, Jerramy Killpack. He says, 'Its a high percentage case.'
No such thing as a 'slam dunk', but I expect he would not have taken my appeal, nor would I have pursued this avenue, if it weren't viable.
My case manager at Hillinan & Killpack stated that the resolution (sellement), with my claim, is a couple months in the offing.
So there's the 'ask' and description. My family is tapped out, my guys love me and are loved. They have helped me this far, but timelines don't work within expectation. This SSI determination, pending, once settled, any funds contributed would be returnable. I need to get over this hump for a couple months, rentwise.
