Tiffani Zeleny

Our dear friend Tiffani was recently diagnosed with Acanthamoeba Keratitis (a parasite in the cornea). Acanthamoeba Keratitis is a rare but serious infection of the eye that can result in permanent visual impairment or blindness. Tiffani has been working with her doctor for several weeks to gain control over the amoeba's. She has now been referred to the University of Iowa and will be traveling to and from Iowa City for further treatment multiple times a week because she has had no success in her treatments. From this, she has found out she also has second and third infections to battle on top of Acanthamoeba Keratitis. The doctors are highly doubtful that they will be able to save her infected eye. In hopes of saving Tiffani’s eye, she is using seven different types of eye drops, totaling more than 70 painful drops each day. This long road to recovery could last over a year with many unknown experimental processes. Tiffani has been unable to work due to the extreme pain, inflammation and intense sensitivity to light, leaving her with no sight in the infected eye. Throughout all this, she keeps trying to be the inspirational Mom and friend she’s always been.

Tiffani is an amazing mother to four loving and beautiful daughters. She has always devoted as much time to them and her husband Gary as there is in the day. Sadly, Tiffani spends most of her hours in the dark at home while trying to stay positive. With their help and her husband Gary, she will overcome this bump in the road. She has done her best to show up to Crossfit daily to give her a bit of normalcy during this challenging situation. She is in constant pain.

Where we need your support:

Tiffani has bi-weekly appointments to get her eye examined by the doctor and specially curated eye drops that she has to have refilled every two weeks (the eye drops alone are $500 per bottle). Each time she needs a new formula, she has to toss the drops she’s already paid for and buy new ones.

We ask for your donations to help Tiffani & family during this time while she is unable to work. Your donations will allow them to stress less about how to pay the mounting medical bills while she isn't working. She is also self-employed, so her benefits and income have been stretched to the limits.
