Tigray Rehabilitation & Aid
I have set up this GoFundMe account to help raise funds for the rehabilitation and food aid for the people of Tigray. My goal is to raise $5,000 before the end of July and I would love for you to help me reach my goal! I am looking for 500 generous people to donate a minimum of $10 each. All contributions will be donated to a nonprofit organization holding a 501c3, that is solely focused on the rehabilitation of Tigray, and providing immediate aid into the region. Receipts will be publicly shared for all donations made.
On November 4, 2020, unelected prime minister, and Nobel Peace Prize winner Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia, waged a genocidal war on the northern province Tigray. To the world Abiy Ahmed called it a “law enforcement operation to capture fugitives” but it was quickly evident this was a deliberate attack on civilians; with the intent to exterminate the Tigrayan ethnicity. Abiy Ahmed not only deployed Ethiopian troops to attack the people of Tigray, but he also invited foreign actors, such as Eritrean and Somalian forces, Amhara militia, and UAE drones. Over the last 8 months more than 150,000 innocent civilians have been brutally massacred, 2.5 million people have been displaced from their homes and more than 70,000 refugees have fled to Sudan. More than 12,000 reports of sexual violence against women and young girls have been reported, as rape is being used as a weapon of war. Women are being gang raped by Ethiopian and Eritrean troops, and intentionally infected with HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. The entire region of Tigray has been destroyed by aerial bombing, causing full destruction of infrastructure such as, schools, hospitals, homes, factories, and small businesses in efforts to dismantle the region. In addition to these atrocities, Tigray has also been completely looted by troops, who are guilty of stealing everything in sight from clothing, cars, and furniture to educational and medical equipment. Adding to an already dire situation, the people of Tigray have also been without basic day to day necessities such as running water, electricity, and telecommunications. Banks have been shut down and accounts have been frozen, leaving residents without access to their own money. The entire region of Tigray is being intentionally starved, as crops have been burned and food aid is being blocked from entering the region. Today, more than 5.2 million people are in dire need of humanitarian aid and more than 1 million people are in acute starvation conditions. According to the UN, this is the worst global famine crisis in decades!
As always, your support and generosity is greatly appreciated.
