Tijuana Family House Restoration After Fire Damage

Donation protected

Yesica Billotte and I (Chase Billotte) would like to begin by wishing safety, health, equanimity and love to all, during challenging times of COVID-19!!!

Our extended family in Tijuana, Mexico; Yesica's sister, husband and our two nieces and nephew suffered a fire that occurred February 22nd, 2020 (https://www.yucatan.com.mx/mexico/tijuana-incendio-consume-diez-casas-hallan-un-cuerpo).  Since the fire our family was  provided minimal supplies from the city including tubing for their sewage, 6 laminated panels and 6 wood planks to patch up their house, which is not nearly enough to repair all of the fire damage that occurred to their house. A few weeks after this tragedy COVID-19 started and our family has not and will not receive any more assistance from the Mexican federal, state or local government to rebuild the roof that suffered damage, their patio that collapsed from the water pressure used by the firefighters to hose down the 10 houses that were engulfed in flames, sewage/plumbing issues and poor air quality with remains of dust particles that fill the air to this day (that we have attempted to reduce with air filters).  Additionally, the family has suffered economic challenges associated with COVID-19, with no money coming in from work from either parent, due to lack of job opportunities as well as financial hardship with no state of federal government funding support in Mexico.

I myself had not been able to visit my family for the last six months or so, and when I did, I was devastated to see the trauma and challenges they are experiencing with the fire thatTen Houses Burnt & One Person Dead  nearly took their home and their lives. If it was not for their new puppy that was barking non-stop when the fire started around 10:30 p.m. and everyone was asleep, the family would not have been able to escape and call their father who drove home from his job with Police chasing him, and he was able to assist with putting out the fire that was damaging his house. However, even when I speak with him the trauma and emotional scaring from that event are recognizable. For the family as a whole, depression from the after-math and the sense of hopelessness with no income and challenges that all are facing with the uncertainty and fear of COVID-19 are still very much present. There is a since of desperation that I nor Yesica can fulfill on our own. However, we have begun to seek mental services for the family and now are striving to rebuild a safe and habitable living environment along with our family. We are asking for financial assistance or any other assistance that one may feel would be helpful for them. The estimate for repairing the house ceiling/roof,  some interior walls, reconstruction of the patio, pluming and placing secure structure walls around the house that sits on a hill to secure the terrain is estimated at $7,000  ($3000 in labor and $4000 in materials).

Please reach out to Yesica and I if you have any questions or comments on the matter, and once again thank you for your time and consideration!!!
