My family owned and operated the Omni Hut restaurant from 1960 to 2018. As the youngest of the family I started working in the kitchen at the age of 9. I worked my way up from washing pot and pans to running the kitchen. My dream was to own my own restaurant one day but as things do in life, I went a different direction. Recent changes in our life have given my wife and I the chance to bring a new twist on an old idea, to bring you the same Omni Hut cuisine but in an entirely new way.
For years, my wife and I have wanted to start food truck or specifically concessions trailer style mobile restaurant. There has been such an outpouring and desire for the Omni Hut cuisine we just had to try. Our idea is the called Tiki Hut Express! A mobile version of those same fresh and handmade delicious foods I grew up cooking at the Omni Hut.
We needed help, so, we were encouraged to start a GoFundMe fundraiser to ask for your help getting a dream off the ground. All donations will be used to purchase a 20 foot concessions trailer equipped with everything we need to get started. The usual kitchen items such as a stove, oven, steam table, deep fryers, refrigerator, cooler, freezer and even the kitchen sink will be necessary. We’ll have more on that as go.
We’ve been asked when we would try to open. Truthfully, we were in a much better position financially and more sure before the political unrest, Covid-19 lockdown and enhanced restrictions surrounding the food industry. All we can say right now is that we're trying, planning and looking for opportunity. We're even considering a modification to the plan in perhaps opening a small mostly to go operation. Everything is in the air.
We just want to say your support would mean everything to us and so many others. There are so many Omni Hut fans out there and we want to continue that legacy that began with my Father and continued through the family and now down to us. I think together we can all bring back those memories, those moments and those flavors with the Tiki Hut Express.
