A letter from Tikki....
Families and friends, as some of you might know, I was born with a congenital heart defect that for many years, under annual medical examination, the heart was functional. In the recent months, I felt discomfort in the abdominal area and thought of nothing more but small stomach problems. I went to Penn's urgent care and Jefferson University Hospital for different consultations. My life took a drastic turn at 33 when the doctors told me that I am now battling progressive, rapid, degenerative, and terminal heart failure.
I have been transferred to Columbia hospital under the advice of the Jefferson team and the only option is for an urgent heart transplant. This heart will not last long. I am racing against time.
After multiple discussions with family and the care team at Columbia, it will be a long journey ahead medically, financially, emotionally, and mentally. On average, a heart transplant costs around 1.5 million dollars. On top of the costs, the toll psychologically is yet another factor to consider.
Although I’ve reached out to immediate resources such as family, work and insurance that can provide temporary relief on my situation at hand, such as the transplant and hospitalization, it still may not be enough. As some of you may know, it is very difficult for me to open up and ask for help. But as you can imagine, there will be endless challenges and defeats as well as uplifting moments as I will have faith and support by my side. However, to help make my long journey to recovery a slightly less stressful one, I am here to sincerely ask my family, church, friends, and anyone willing to LEND A HELPING HAND.

A constant in my recovery is the costs of life long medication, continuous and frequent follow ups, other post surgery procedures and any other costs associated with this journey. The donations collected here will go towards those costs. Without your help, this may be a short lived journey so I greatly appreciate any help regardless of size.
Please feel free to send messages my way and visitations are welcomed. Once again thank you for letting me share my story. I hope to tell you all the next part in person. God bless!
