Tim Garvin's FIGHT with cancer
Many of you know and love Timothy Garvin (Garv), our beloved retired Barstow High School band director, who taught literally thousands of students. He is a loyal father, husband, son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, confidant, and was a member of the Barstow community for several decades. After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Melissa, Texas. He now manages a local public storage facility and plays bass clarinet in the McKinney Texas community band.
On February 27th, after a colonoscopy, Garv learned from his doctor that he has Stage 3 or 4 Colon Cancer, a rare form called Signet Ring Cell Adenocarcinoma. This news came as a shock and he and his family are still processing this information. He is also recovering from pneumonia at the moment. Once the pneumonia clears up, he is going in for colon surgery. That recovery is about a month. After that he will start intense chemo and will be out of work for quite some time due to the severity of the cancer stage. He will have to continue to have to pay into his work benefits to keep his health insurance.
Garv and his beautiful wife Debbie are ready to fight this dreaded disease in every way possible. Garv is a father to 3 and has 5 grandkids. With many more family and friends, the number is too high to count.
I wanted to reach out on behalf of the Garvin family and seek your prayers for his healing and any monetary donation you may wish to give to help Garv during this difficult time. All funds will go directly to Garv's family to help with medical costs and any future needs he and his wife may encounter while he undergoes treatment. Garv has been the “giver” in helping others for many years and now we have an opportunity to give back and show our support to him.
Garv was a fixture in the Barstow, California community for a very long time through his 34 years of director the Barstow High School Band and 28 years with Barstow Community band. He has blessed many of us through teaching, friendship, hard work, wonderful attitude and smile.
We appreciate your prayers and support and ask that you help us share this GoFundMe campaign on your social media so that we can reach the many people who want to help. We would also love for everyone to share a memory in the comments or when posting to social media. It's a spirit booster.
Thank you! Amber Lara BHS band student 1995-1999 (clarinet section, section leader 11th & 12th grade), friend of the family.
