Hi everyone, very recently our good friend Tim had some devastating news...
His words......
Hi guys, I wanted to add some more context to the fire at my unit and answer some of the questions.
I moved into this unit on Tuesday this week. Right from the off, things didn't go well. The storm over the weekend prevented me moving in on Monday so it was pushed back to Tuesday. On move in day, one of the back doors on the hired van jammed open so this further delayed move in.
After a day of rushing around, I got home at 6pm just in time to attend Mental Health First Aid training that went on to 10pm. Wednesday I was at work and on dad duty whilst Sam was out Wednesday eve. Thursday I was at work and on Mental Health training again.
That takes me to this morning. Just 48hrs after getting the keys to my own little unit, I'm told everything is gone.
Some have criticised me for not having insurance in place and you are right, I should have. I was due to go to the unit tomorrow morning to document everything for the underwriters. I just hadn't had chance. And that is my fault, I should have prioritised it and had it in place. However, a lot of what has been lost has very little value, but it held a lot of sentimental value.
Some have asked if I am setting up a go fund me page or similar. I'll be honest, I don't feel comfortable setting one up myself, but some have said that might set something up. For that, I am extremely grateful.
I have been to site today and I did have a small glimmer of hope that the roof was intact over my unit, but speaking to the site manager, the mez floor above my unit was made of wood and the fire was present there. I might not even be able to go into the unit to salvage anything.
In the unit was:
All of my Our Tim Flags, Banners, Branding and Merch
Car parts for my cars - including brand new Vauxhall mats, spares for the Calibras and parts for my VW
My PA system, used at events like the VBOA
All our camping gear, used for family holidays
My collection of Scalextric cars that I've been collecting since I was 4 years old
My entire collection of Max Power magazines
Sam's records (90s house and dance) and record player
Sam's childhood teddys, photographs, medals and certificates
Sideboxes for my motorbike
My collection of car radios, including the one from my first car Miles
All the VauxALL branded items
It is finally starting to sink in just how much I've lost. Whilst most of it wouldn't have a value on the insurance, things like my PA system, branded items and kit would have had a value of circa £5,000. The real value, to me and Sam, far outweighs this.
The saddest part about all of this is the only reason I moved all of this stuff was to get it out of the damp garage to try and preserve and protect it all.
Yes, it is all just stuff, yes, most of it can be replaced and yes, I should have sorted the insurance sooner. No-one died, no-one was injured, that is main thing. Losing items that were precious to us both is still painful and upsetting.
Hopefully this answers some of the questions. The comments, messages and calls I've had since my first post have helped. I'm just praying I can get in there soon and salvage something, even if it's just Sam's childhood stuff.
Thanks again guys for the support. I'll keep you posted on updates.
Tim
Now, personal items can't be replaced, but Tim's Equipment can be. This is were we can all help him.
Tim isn't just a car clubcalibra member to me, he's a friend. A friend that works harder than anyone I've ever known. He's bust his guts for years to make the ourtim brand inc buying all the equipment needed.
I hope we can help him get back on his feet ASAP with our help.
Thank you all
Andy.
