Having a milestone birthday during a pandemic is not easy. It really limits what you can do to celebrate the occasion. I had to do way too much thinking about this, but I've come up with a couple things I can do to try to make turning 40 as memorable as possible, given the circumstances.
The first thing I did was start up a blog called 40 Days to 40. Every day in this final stretch to 40, I'm writing a little something -- a reflection, a thought, a question, it's a little bit of everything and a whole lot of me. As a birthday present to me, I'd love for you to check it out sometime, and that doesn't even cost you anything.
The second way I'm sharing my birthday, however, might cost you a little something. I know these are incredibly difficult times, but if you can, I'd love your help in supporting my birthday fundraiser I put together. I'm raising money for an organization I just recently learned about called This is My Brave.
Over the past few years, mental health has become a very important issue to me. When I was putting together this fundraiser, I was specifically looking for an organization helping to deal with the stigma of mental health in a creative way. And that's exactly what This is My Brave is doing. The mission of This Is My Brave is to end the stigma surrounding mental health issues by sharing personal stories of individuals living successful, full lives despite mental illness through poetry, essay and original music, on stage in front of a live audience and through virtual livestream events. Any amount you can give to support them would be very much appreciated.
