Jacksonville City Council Is Squandering Our Most Valuable Resource

We are a group of people in Jacksonville, Florida who have been fighting for 2 years to protect Pumpkin Hill Creek Preserve State Park and surrounding wetlands, including the "7 Creeks Recreation Area" on the North East side of Jacksonville. All this land is zoned agricultural except for some smaller parcels of land privately owned; those are rural residential. Recently, a landowner who inherited property from their deceased father is trying to sell it to a large developer who wants to put 60-foot lots on land immediately adjacent to the preserve. The Jacksonville City Council approved to have this land rezoned despite hundreds of objections and months of fighting against this action due in part to the savvy lawyer lobbyist hired by the developer. WE NEED YOUR HELP. We have the opportunity to appeal against this decision, but we will need our own legal counsel to do so. The City of Jacksonville spent MILLIONS of dollars to preserve this land, and the City Council is now allowing builders to encroach on this relatively untouched wilderness, huge wetlands, a lake and an ecologically important creek running through it. This is a taxpayer funded 5000-acre park system that City Council is turning a blind eye to protecting.

Jacksonville has plenty of new developments going on all over this wonderful city that will provide affordable housing options for anyone who wants to live here, several just outside this preserve. If we allow them to continue to push further beyond the current boundaries of development our pristine preserve and wetlands will be irrevocably damaged.
