Hi Team Danna!
As many of you know, Danna recently found out she has a tumor in her lung, meaning that her Rhabdomyosarcoma has metastasized and she has had to make the impossible decision to leave Finland and return to her childhood home in Minnesota. The weight of this decision is heavy; Danna has spent five years building a beautiful and rich life for herself in Finland, and she never thought she would have to leave her new home in this way. She needs the support of her family and friends - of all the people whose lives she has touched - now more than ever.
Danna's mother, Candy, flew to Finland last week to be with her daughter and get her healthy enough to travel to Minnesota. Until she is able to travel, Danna will be in and out of the hospital getting treatment for the fluid in her lungs and having chemotherapy. When she finally returns to Minnesota, it is important that we get her beloved cat, Stachey, to the United States with her, AND we can anticipate that the cost of medical care in the US will be exponentially more than it has been in Finland for the last three years... Not to mention - Danna and her family are doing all of this in the middle of a pandemic.
Danna's life has been uprooted by this disease and one of the most meaningful things we can do as the people who love her is to lessen the financial burden on her and her family. Danna has worked so hard (impressively hard for a cancer patient!) in multiple jobs during the last three years to support herself, but much of her treatment has made it impossible for her to work, and the bakery she loved working in closed due to the pandemic in March.
By donating, you are contributing to lifting the financial burden on Danna and her family for plane tickets, getting Candy to Danna in Finland and then bringing Stachey and Danna to the United States safely (whatever it takes!!), living expenses, and medical bills.
