I'm currently attempting to cycle the Irish coastline in aid of St. Francis Hospice. This charity provides home care, day care, an inpatient unit and bereavement support amongst other things.
This charity is important to my family, and others who were close to my dad as it was at their center in Blanchardstown where he spent his final weeks before passing away in August 2017. I've seen firsthand how kind, attentive and hardworking the staff are, and I know how much the clients and their families appreciate them, especially given that the services that they provide are free of charge.
As their is no cost to use the services provided by the hospice, they are heavily reliant on donations. In 2020, they reported that their services cost €17.9 million to run, with €14.9 million being funded by the HSE, while they listed one of their goals of 2021 as having been to fundraise €4.5 million. Currently, they are aiming to improve their facilities at their center in Raheny.
To encourage donations and create awareness for the hospice and the work that they do, I'm aiming to cycle as much of the Irish coastline as I can, hopefully in no more than 28 days. I plan on mainly camping, and therefore will be bringing a tent and sleeping bag with me, however I also intend on staying with family/ friends or in hostels/B&Bs from time to time too. This is something that I've wanted to do for the last few years, and now that I have the opportunity, I'm going for it. While there's no guarantee that I'll finish it, those who know me know how stubborn I am and that I will do all I can to get through it, but your support to the Hospice would really encourage me.
Your donations are greatly appreciated, and honestly, anything at all is good.
