Tim's Memorial Music Education Fund

Hello musicians,

As many of you know, sadly we lost our Barbershop brother Tim McDonough at the end of 2020. Tim will be sorely missed by all who knew him. We hope to preserve Tim's legacy and love of music by establishing the Tim McDonough Memorial Music Education Fund, dedicated to supporting boys and girls in music education at the Middle School and High School levels.

Tim was always involved in music, singing in church and community choirs his whole life.  He started ringing bells when he was 8. Tim's first Barbershop experience was a pickup quartet at John Marshall High School in Rochester, MN in the Fall of 1983.  During his college years Tim sang with the Fargo/Moorhead Barbershop Chorus.  After graduation with a degree in Electrical Engineering, Tim moved to San Diego and was a member of the Palomar Pacific Chapter Barbershop Chorus for 13 years. There, he sang with the quartet Finders Keepers. When he came to Portland, he sang with a quartet of guys at HP, the Half Tones. Tim and Karin met on a handbell cruise. They got engaged and were married in June 2003. Tim continued ringing, with Bells of the Cascades, and singing with Bridge Town Sound Chorus until the pandemic shut everything down early in 2020.

Tim joined Bridge Town Sound Barbershop Chorus in Portland in 2009. He was a key member of our group, serving as a board member, a section leader, fundraiser and quartetter.  He was an accomplished, technical musician - always early to demonstrate mastery of the music and eager to help anyone in the chorus progress with their part. He could sing any part but settled on Tenor with the chorus and in his two quartets: Chordcraft and Bridgetones. Tim was awarded our Barbershopper of the Year for 2018.

Tim was passionate about growing Barbershop and enjoyed going to schools with his quartet and demonstrating Barbershop music for the kids. This is why we are creating the Tim McDonough Memorial Music Education Fund. Our goal is to raise money and donate it to several school choral music programs for Fall 2021.
