Tina Byrd Surgery

Hi, my name is Lisa Taylor and I am fundraising for my sister, Tina Byrd for her upcoming medical expenses for her surgery. Tina was diagnosed in 2010 with a hereditary Alpha 1 Lung disease, she had pneumonia for 9 months and the scarring from it paralyzed her phrenic nerves to her diaphragm and was given 6 months to find help for her or she would be on hospice due to O2 stats of 77. She has went to New Jersey for diaphragm phrenic nerve pacemakers and now almost 12 years later they have to be replaced. She is the only person is the US that walks with this machine, it takes place as a ventilator or a trachea. She was scheduled for surgery June 8th and the surgeon called her the day before and insurance is not wanting to cover the new device that she is needing. She needs to have both lungs working and right now only the left side is working and their is no air movement in her right lung. We know she needs this surgery but would need help to cover some expenses, the machine cost is $58,000 and $38,000 was covered my surgery leaving a balance of $20,000 besides the hospitalization and dr fees but if we can submit some money that we raise then maybe Vanderbilt could help with some as well. Her dr said he would do what he could to help us, and they want to reschedule surgery for July so we have a few weeks that we need to raise as much as we can and send to Vanderbilt to get this surgery set.
