Tina Erickson (Wicks) of Dawson Creek BC.
To those who know her, she can be described as a very strong person in ways. A caring daughter, mother, sister, relative, and friend. Tina is always looking out for everyone else, all before herself.
Through the course of her life Tina has endured a stroke, multiple blood transfusions, four eye surgeries, all alongside struggling with diabetes since childhood. In turn, this has compromised her health many times while at no point did she ever want to put anyone out and ask for help. Luckily Cory Erickson, her loving husband of 15 years, has always been there to fill her coffee cup! Whether it be supporting her balance walking up the stairs, to painting the left hand of her nails... because she destroyed the right.
At the end of December 2022, Tina became very ill. With being her stubborn independent self, she tried to get better at home. Upon the scare of realizing she wasn't getting better, increasingly struggling to breathe. In order to be seen by a doctor urgently, her husband Cory took her to the emergency room in Dawson Creek January 3rd. This day is when Tina began fighting the biggest fight of her life...for her life.
Tina was airlifted to Vancouver as the cause of her condition,(at this point unknown), was increasingly getting worse. Not long after arrival, breathing on her own became no longer an option, and the choice to be put into a medically induced coma was made in order for doctors to have her ventilated.
While fighting to get over the worst pneumonia of her life, doctors could not figure out the right medication to counteract the sickness. Once she started to get better she caught a new strain of pneumonia And again fought to breathe and fought to get over it. Not knowing why it was so hard for her to get better, countless tests ensued. The doctors have now found blood clots that are dangerously close to her heart, thus needing further medical assistance.
In the midst of the battle, and due to the multiple times doctors had to insert and remove the ventilator, Tina now has new obstacle, a paralyzed larynx (voice-box), therefore can no longer verbally communicate needs. In order to continually assist breathing without ventilation, the doctors have now performed a tracheotomy.
There are more battles and struggles in this to come that only time will tell, although evidently so.
This is only a small portion of the fight she has gone through so far, and much only Cory and Tina will be able to share when ready.
Tina and Cory are now asking for our help! Tina battles to get healthy and strong in the St Paul's Hospital ICU in Vancouver BC, Canada.
She needs Cory to stay by her side; for her mental health and comfort in these uncertain times. And as I am certain many will agree, being alongside a loved one in these dire moments is absolutely crucial for the strength and support needed to pull through! however being as they are so far from home, Cory will not be working for a while in order to be by his wife's side as she begins her journey to heal and get better...
Any small donation is a big one, as family and friends will do their best to help keep them together. Life is not cheap, hotel and food vouchers have ran out, costs are not suited for these types of situations financially for families to stay with there loved ones. They are now paying for his stay with their savings, which will soon run low as life goes forward with medical costs as, well as other expenses and bills. The uncertainty of how long or where Cory will be able to stay has added extra to a situation and nightmare no one should have to face alone.
