Tina’s AML Fight Fund

I never imagined that I would have to do this but life is unpredictable and, unfortunately, cancer does not discriminate. My beloved friend, Tina Poulakis, was recently diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) at only 27 years old. On behalf of her, and her family, I have to ask for your help.

Tina is a selfless person who has devoted her career to helping animals and frequently donated blood and plasma.

Recently, after donating plasma, the donation organization told her something was abnormal with her blood. Tina followed up with her primary care physician. After multiple blood tests and a bone marrow biopsy she was diagnosed with AML on Christmas Eve.

This diagnosis is life changing. Treatment has to begin as soon as possible and will start with an immediate month long hospital stay for chemotherapy and other treatments. Tina’s immune system will be severely compromised so she will not be able to be surrounded by the people and pets she loves most. While we still haven’t learned all the details of the process yet we do know that it will be a difficult and extended period of treatment and recovery in which she cannot work or support herself.

The medical expenses Tina will incur are the cost of her survival, and, unfortunately, are far more than she can pay. Like many of us, the risk of long term financial ruin by medical debt is a real, and terrifying, possibility. Tina’s insurance will cover some of the treatment, but there will be huge gaps not covered, at a time when she cannot work to support herself.

To help Tina make it through this incredible challenge we have set up a go fund me. We hope to help offset the huge financial cost of her fight against leukemia. From the bottom of our hearts, we appreciate any and all donations. No amount is too small. Please also pray for our dear friend during this unimaginable time.
