Tinfoil and Tongs

Hello, we are a group of college seniors studying independent filmmaking at Northern Arizona University. We are entering our final semester at NAU and are tasked with our final ‘capstone’ project. To complete this project, we must write a script, put together a team, and execute the story to the best of our creative ability. All members of our team are hard-working and talented individuals with a passion to create films of professional quality. However, in order to produce a film of this caliber, we need your help.

There are many financial factors to consider when preparing to make a film. The first major expense is, of course, paying our actors. While many student projects simply recruit their classmates and friends to fill their on-screen roles, we hope to acquire a higher echelon of talent. Achieving this level of professionalism requires extensive searching, auditioning, and casting calls. Simply put, though, good actors cost money. As a student production, we cannot promise industry-standard wages to professional actors, but we plan to pay them as much as we can for their time and talent.

Next, Food is an expense that is vital to any production. A well-fed crew is a happy and effective crew. We hope to have an on-set staff of at least fifteen members, which may not sound like many. If thoroughly considered, though, this costs something akin to a thanksgiving dinner every single shoot day, plus snacks and drinks to keep them focused in between. Keeping a varied and enjoyable assortment of meals adds up quickly, and is easily one of the most important parts of even the largest productions.

Our third major expense is our set. Finding locations and building our sets within those locations, if we want to do it right, is very expensive. The story and themes of TInfoil and Tongs require a lot more in terms of set design than most NAU films have sought to achieve in the past. Specifically, the home where the main story takes place is covered in large amounts of wire and other equipment that make up the lost scientist’s lab. This lab, and the characters that live within it, are pivotal to creating a truly powerful story.

Production kicks off in March 2020. To ensure that we reach our goal with enough time to finish pre-production, we have set our GoFundMe deadline for the 22nd of February. Every dollar that you can contribute helps us reach our $2300 goal. We thank you so much for your support; without contributors like you, projects like this would not be possible.

Sincerely,

Kevin Hoffmann, Samuel Rentschler, Feng Yi, and Dylan Newman
