Hello guys, my name is Américo, I'm very proud trans and Brazilian guy. I'm here to try to raise the value of my top surgery.
As some of you may know, the situation here in Brazil is not the best, many people are unemployed due to the pandemic and I am one of those people. I am an inclusive education teacher, I study history and besides being fired I had to stop going to college to work to pay the bills.
Today I work entirely as an illustrator on Instagram, I have a Good Omens fanart artist account and making commissions helps to support my family. But I can't get enough money to save and have this surgery.
Here in Brazil we have SUS, an incredible public health system, totally free but the waiting lines are very long, sometimes we wait for care for decades. One such wait is for gender reassignment surgeries. Before the pandemic, this wait was more than 6 years. Now, with a visible collapse of Brazilian public health, this wait may last more than a decade.
I have been in this fight for 10 years, my documents are all rectified, my gender on my birth certificate has already been corrected, but surgery is my main goal.
A few months ago I have been suffering from problems with the breasts, for a month now i have had persistent wounds that bleed, that cause a lot of fever and pain. I have been taking medicine but these wounds persist. I have not used a binder or elastic bandage or compression bandage for more than 10 months because of friction wounds.
The situation is now unbearable, in addition to gender dysphoria, depression, anxiety, these skin diseases are preventing me from working.
I need to work to support my family and I cannot wait more than 6 years for my life improve.
After some good years of searching, now I have the contact of a surgeon near where I live, he is willing to solve my problem, but as we know, surgery is expensive.
I need approximately 15 thousand Brazilian reais, something around 3 thousand dollars just to pay for the surgery. I plan to pay for the necessary exams and other expenses. But 3 thousand dollars is an exorbitant amount for someone who works only selling illustrations on the internet.
I believe that having this surgery will give me the strength to continue working, for me to have the courage to go out on the street, report to other people and not suffer from these skin diseases or dysphoria anymore. I do not believe that I will be able to raise this amount so quickly, I know it will take time, I can wait, I have waited for 10 years.
I will be forever grateful to anyone who can help me, sharing my story helps me a lot.
Thanks for all.
