On April 17, it will be 4 years since we had to say our final goodbyes to Jordan Blaauw. Our family was irrevocably altered that day. We as a family, promised that we would never let the world forget that Jordan lived. That he was an incredible human being with a generous heart. That he never judged a person for being different but rather embraced a person for who they are. That his memory will live on by giving our commitment helping to those in need in our community.
Since losing Jordan our family has taken on several projects to allow beauty to blossom as we amongst our broken hearts. Each and every single project/campaign we have embarked upon, friends, family and the West Michigan community have shown immense support in our continued effort to keep Jordan’s memory alive. As April begins to approach, we have once again decided to continue Jordan’s legacy of kindness to others.
For those who may not know, Jordan was just beginning his dream of taking the culinary world by storm. Chefs do not begin their culinary journey to get rich but rather their desire to share their deep passion for food. Jordan’s love language was sharing that passion with others. As the 4th anniversary of his death approaches, we have felt it fitting to honor that passion for food.
As all of you know, local restaurants and their staff have taken a massive hit this year due to COVID. So many local restaurants are struggling to keep the lights on. Chef Jenna from Amore knows first hand the hardships this unrelenting pandemic has created for local restaurants and their staff. Wanting to give back to local restaurants in GR, Chef Jenna Arcidiacono and Jen Mitchell started #TipBackThursday. With #TipBackThursday Chef Jenna and Jen eat at a local restaurant and surprise the staff with a huge tip with donations from the incredible West Michigan Community. As they say, “The Westside is the BEST Side!”
Knowing that #TipBackThursday is a campaign that Jordan would wholeheartedly support, I contacted Chef Jenna and expressed our desire to raise money in Jordan’s memory for #TipBackThursday. Chef Jenna didn’t miss a beat and immediately agreed to us collaborating with #TipBacThursday.
We are once again asking our generous family, friends and West Michigan Community to help us honor Jordan’s memory by giving to others. We have set a lofty goal this year of $10,000 for #TipBackThursday. $10,000 would make a huge impact for struggling local restaurants and allow Chef Jenna to tip back as many local restaurants as possible.
We are collecting donations for #TipBackThursday starting Feb 5th through April 17th.All donations collected will go directly to Chef Jenna for #TipBackThrusday. You can donate to this amazing cause via Chef Jenna’s Venmo @Jenna-Arcidiacono, our GoFundMe campaign or drop off a check/cash at Amore while you pick up some AMAZING takeout! We hope you will consider donating to this amazing cause in memory of Jordan. No amount is too small.
The Love Cook
BY RON PADGETT
Let me cook you some dinner.
Sit down and take off your shoes
and socks and in fact the rest
of your clothes, have a daquiri,
turn on some music and dance
around the house, inside and out,
it’s night and the neighbors
are sleeping, those dolts, and
the stars are shining bright,
and I’ve got the burners lit
for you, you hungry thing.
