Tip Jar: Graffiti Cover-Up by the McCormicks
Donation protected
A group of community members organized to beautify the Franklin Ave area by the Edgewood Park neighborhood. They wanted to cover the graffiti with something more community-minded. This group raised some donations from neighbors for paint and supplies. They did not, however, have a budget to compensate their mural artists. I set up a GoFundMe for the portion I painted, and I'm also setting this one for the McCormick family, who has been working on a waterfall painting on a significant component of the site.
They have done other public art in New Orleans, notably for parts of the Claiborne overpass. Mrs. McCormick lives up the street from the Franklin Ave mural site and is working on it with some of her children. Her son Rocky has done the bulk of the painting along with Nadira and Damani. I've personally enjoyed their camaraderie on-site. Mrs. McCormick has stopped by to check on me a few times while I've been out painting.
