Urgent Care for Tizzy
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Nick and I am in need of help and resources for Tizzy. She is a female German Shepherd and is believed to be about 8 to 9 years old. Tizzy was surrendered to the SPCA in Harrisonburg, VA on April 5th and was fostered out within two days to my girlfriends care. Little did we know that we would both fall in love with her from the start. We were afraid she wouldn’t find a permanent home because of her age so I applied to adopt her and with the SPCA’s help and approval Tizzy is with me at my home in Alexandria, VA as her foster. The adoption is pending dental work and her spay scheduled in July. Until this week that was the only medical need that any of us were aware of besides what they thought was a limp due to a possible old injury that was never treated. Unfortunately, everything has changed now! Tizzy recently stopped eating and had some vomiting and diarrhea and within a few days her health seemed to decline pretty quick. The SPCA is 138 miles away from my home and I felt it was necessary to have her evaluated right away. So I took her and paid to see an Urgent Care Doctor this week and the findings are not good. The Doctor suspects she has Lymphocytic Leukemia and could be going into liver failure. He said that we need to get one of the rescue groups involved and that further testing to confirm the diagnosis will be very expensive. I did notify the SPCA and am waiting to hear back from them. I know they have very limited resources and likely will not be able to offer further testing and treatment. I also reached out to the Animal Welfare League here to see if Tizzy’s care can be transferred to them with me continuing to foster her so that I have access to a vet, and to at least help manage her ongoing healthcare needs and allow me access for care in this area to see her through whatever diagnosis. I wish I was in a position to cover everything she needs, but I’m not. What I and my family can do is continue to provide her a loving home and continue to love her and be with her until the end. I hope to find the resources we need and raise enough money to have the other necessary blood work and ultrasound done to either rule out or confirm her diagnosis and enough to provide the vet care she will need either way. We just want to know we did everything we could for Tizzy! She deserves it! We do not want her to be alone and live out whatever time she has left in a shelter. Please help if you can, we thank you in advance for any donation amount, and your kindness and consideration for Tizzy, aka Tater Tots! Someday, I will pay it forward and if any funds are left over they will be donated to help another pet in need.
