Help Cassandra Beat Cancer
Hi, everyone. My name is Cassandra, and I am a 19 year old college student from South Texas. I dream of maybe one day going into the veterinary field or becoming a history professor, but all of this has had to be put on hold due to a diagnosis I could not have seen coming in a million years.
In late May, I noticed a lump on the side of my neck. In early June, the bump was much more prominent, and my primary doctor sent me off to get a CT scan. The CT scan revealed that the bumps on my neck were enlarged lymph nodes, the biggest being seven centimeters and the rest close in size. I allowed myself to ponder the possibility that this could be something more serious than I'd originally though but never for too long. I could not imagine that at the age of 19, I would be facing the biggest challenge of my life.
On July 6th, 2021, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Hodgkin's Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphatic system, most notably causing a compromised immune system. I was later informed that my particular cancer was quite advanced, according to the oncologist and was quickly admitted to the hospital, where I underwent further testing, minor surgery for a port, and my first chemo, all within three days of each other.
Everything has happened so quickly, I've hardly had time to sit down and give this situation a proper thought. Because of chemo and its side effects, I was forced to take a break from the job I love and a break from in person university life.
While the cancer has taken a toll on me emotionally, mentally, and physically, it has left a financial toll on my family with the cost of doctor visits, specialists, medication, chemotherapy, hospital stays, and other necessities.
I made this gofundme in the hopes I may help find my family some financial relief. I am incredibly thankful for thoughts and prayers directed to me in this life altering time. I appreciate you reading my story.
