Eva’s Story
Donation protected
Hello, we are a group of Firefighters from Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue service who are undertaking the ‘three peaks in 24 challenge’.
We are doing this in order to raise funds for our friend and colleague’s daughter Eva. Eva has been diagnosed with Cancer at the age of 6, and has just started chemotherapy.
We asked Eva’ father Rob to put this situation in his own words and this is what he said:
My 6-year-old daughter, Eva, was admitted to Northampton General Hospital in March with pneumonia after feeling unwell for a few weeks while I was away at Fire Service College.
A routine X-ray revealed that, in addition to the pneumonia, she had an unidentified mass on her chest. She was treated with IV antibiotics for the infection, and further scans confirmed a large tumour in her chest growing into her spine. She was transferred to Nottingham’s specialist children’s cancer ward, where she underwent multiple biopsies and scans. Now, she faces 3-4 months of chemotherapy over the summer, followed by an operation to remove the tumour.
This situation has required my wife, Helena, to stop working in her beauty business so she can care for Eva full-time and ensure she makes it to all her hospital appointments.
I am profoundly grateful to the fire service for their incredible support, especially since I have only recently joined. Everyone on my watch and throughout the service has shown immense compassion and care for our family’s situation. I am deeply honoured by the commitment and kindness of my colleagues as they take on this challenge for Eva.
We are hoping to raise funds to support Rob and his family financially and to make it possible for them to celebrate Eva completing this round of chemotherapy with a family break.
