Daniel's Cancer Relief Fund

Sometimes life takes us on the most difficult of journeys. My parents are both on that road right now. My father was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer that has metastasized to his liver, bone, and bloodstream. He started chemotherapy two weeks ago, and he is battling with great bravery. My dad is a Veteran and Semper Fi is his motto. It’s even on the back of his wheelchair. And he has been just that as a husband and father, “Always faithful; always loyal.”

My mom had to close their 35-year business , as my father required a full-time caregiver. They are both general contractors and they have worked together and are known in the modular setting industry as veterans in their field. It broke my mom’s heart to have to close the business down just as it had picked up this summer, but nothing was more important to her than caring for my beloved father.  She had been working very hard all summer on commercial office trailers doing extensive cleaning and modifications in 110 degree heat with a small crew. She could not continue once the cancer was discovered.

For any one that has every cared for a loved one, you know how it takes its toll on the human body. My father is on many medications and he is awake most of the night requiring different types of attention. My mother runs to his side and has cared for him 24/7. A week ago, my mother had a mild stroke affecting her speech – we’re certain it’s because she never sleeps! She has recovered from it, but this is her third event such as this and her health is very challenged as a caregiver. Family has come to her side, and everyone is doing the best they can, but it still doesn’t seem to be enough considering their health and financial challenges.

It is not in my parent’s nature to ask for financial aid, but as their daughter I am reaching out and hoping that with this request they will receive help as we are in the season of gratitude and giving. With no more income, bills are piling up. My parents were always a rock and source of support to so many. I grew up watching them help everyone they could. They provided jobs, housing, vehicles, and encouragement to many people both within our family and even outsiders they barely knew. My husband and I have a large family, and the love and support that they poured out to their grandchildren for so many years is nothing short of incredible. Anyone who knows them has been touched by their generosity and kindness.

No amount is too small; all gifts will be received with great love and gratitude. Thank you in advance for considering an act of charity for these two people that would give the shirts off their backs at any moment; for any person. May God bless you during this joyous season and thank you for considering a gift of love.
