Sharon Rourke memorial and charity fund
Donation protected
On the 16th of December my mum, Sharon Rourke, took her own life after battling mental health issues. Her beautiful soul has left behind myself and my dad, and a plethora of devastated family and friends.
In her name, I would like to raise money for a memorial for my mum and for a charity that she would have held close to her heart. My dad and I will be making decisions on this after the initial whirlwind settles. However, you will be kept updated once we have decided where exactly this money will be going.
It is going to be difficult to decide where this money goes. Firstly because no memorial would ever suffice when attempting to commemorate such a wonderful human. Secondly, my mum was an incredibly caring and giving individual. She helped so many people during her life, whether that was in her career, her personal life or a stranger on the street. All I know is that my mum would have wanted something positive to come from her suffering and that's what I would like, too.
My dad would like to make sure it is known that none of this money goes to helping us personally. It is for her memorial and for anyone she can help with these funds, if we get any. Rather than have flowers at the funeral, as a family we would rather have donations from people that we know will make a difference wherever we decide. Our friends have already offered generous donations to this.
Please do not feel obligated to give us anything. I ask, though, that if you are reading this, you take a minute to think of my amazing mum. We love her so much.
If you are feeling low, please know there is a way out and suicide is not the way. My mum deserves to spend many more years enjoying the beauty and wonder and love that this World has to offer.
Thank you,
Niamh Rourke
