Fremont Warm Springs BART Cat Trapping Fundraiser
Tax deductible
When I moved to Fremont a few months ago, I immediately noticed more stray/feral cats around the area than any other place I’ve lived. I've seen everything from kittens to disabled cats to those in good shape to others in not so good shape. Unfortunately, I've seen their numbers increase, which I'm sure is due to the lack of TNR (trap, neuter, release) appointments and services available due to the pandemic. I alone do not have the capacity to TNR them myself so I have just been feeding them. Specifically the big cat colony by my apartment building. Seeing them every night just broke my heart- especially since the overpopulation of stray/feral cats is caused by people either abandoning them or haven’t bothered to spay or neuter their pets.
When I began to notice their water bowls were being refilled sometimes, and traces of food being left behind, I assumed others were feeding them as well. (Below are just some of the cats)
So I went on the NextDoor app to see if I can possibly set up a feeding schedule with those that may be feeding them. Little did I know, the post would take on a life of its own. I was overwhelmed with the responses I got from people wanting to do everything from purchasing cat food, to just providing some kind supportive words. A few of them sent links to request TNR services through the Ohlone Humane Society. So that I did! I'm working with them in helping get this issue under control. I've seen approximately 12-15 cats at a time, but was told there could be far more.
Your donations will be used to cover the $35 copay per surgery as well as additional medical expenses as required. Any donation in excess of what is needed for this trapping project will be used by the Ohlone Humane Society for trapping projects in other areas. This service will not only help control the overpopulation, but will improve the quality of life for these cats, wildlife and people around them.
Thank you in advance for your donation and in helping keep the stray/feral cat population under control and allowing these cats to live a better life.
