I am Heather Massie and I am raising money to fulfill my dream to research, write, and develop a new play titled
"Flying with Sally Ride: America's First Woman in Space"
I studied Astrophysics with dreams of becoming an astronaut, and somehow ended up with a Theatre Arts degree! I now marry my loves of art and science by creating and performing solo plays featuring women in science. My first is the award-winning, internationally-acclaimed play "HEDY! The Life & Inventions of Hedy Lamarr" about the Hollywood film star and inventor of Spread Spectrum Technology, Hedy Lamarr. I have been touring the US and many other countries with this play with the mission to inspire audiences to find ways each day to make the world a better place, To encourage young women in endeavors of science & technology, and to establish Hedy Lamarr as a role model for intelligence & ingenuity.
"Flying with Sally Ride" will be the second in my planned trilogy of shows celebrating women in science. I am raising funds to: conduct research, travel to important locations in Sally's life and work, to interview those who knew and worked with her, to curate footage which can illuminate the story, to attend Space Camp! (a life long dream), to obtain and utilize research texts, to write the script, to develop the script, to work with other theatrical professionals to build a beautiful and engaging work which will foster a love of space, our universe, and our place on it on this lovely place we call Earth.
My academic description:
A solo play based on the life, ideas, and experience of female icon, astrophysicist and astronaut Sally Ride. A dramatic work exploring the wonders of space, Earth, and our universe; a solo performer enacting all roles in an interactive and engaging performance. The second in a trilogy of solo plays on women in science for a wide range of ages and cultures; for touring to theatres, festivals, universities, schools, conferences, science centers and museums worldwide.
