Flo's Sponsored Head Shave - THE PINK SMILE FUND

Donation protected
My world changed suddenly, in April 2019 when out of the blue, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was blessed to receive emotional, financial and physical support from amazing people and today, though still on hormone therapy, I am so grateful to be cancer free!

Supporting and encouraging others going through this journey, has become a life passion for me. I was lucky not to undergo chemotherapy but presently support others going through this treatment and I identify with their pain. So on my 50th birthday on 24th June 2020, I will be doing a live sponsored head shave to raise money!

1. I am raising funds for the Primrose Car Service in Bedford - one major support during my own cancer journey. Without them, I would have had to make a 70 mile round trip, every day of my 15 sessions of Radiotherapy, from Bedford to Addenbrooke's Hospital. Instead, unpaid volunteers picked me up from my front door and drove a few of us to the hospital for treatment and back, daily. I am beyond grateful for these selfless and kind-hearted people and raising funds for the service to be able to continue its amazing work, is just one small way of me giving back.

2. Additionally, I am establishing a fund to support those going through the breast cancer journey. The Pink Smile Fund will help support people diagnosed with breast cancer who face financial challenges, either as a result of lost wages because they are unable to continue to work during treatment (like the experience of  my good friend in London ), or being unable to afford the treatment itself. Just recently, through the Facebook support group I set up, I connected with a lovely lady from Nigeria, whose condition deteriorated after she literally stopped her treatment due to a lack of funds. I decided to help raise the funds, and through a few amazing people, we raised the equivalent of £1,200 to cover her chemotherapy, radiotherapy and medication. She is now fine and recovering wonderfully, but I dread to think what could have happened if she did not get those funds.

People also struggle a lot emotionally, from the rigor of their treatment, or losing their hair,  or everything else that comes with the journey. The Pink Smile Fund will also be used for things like sponsoring a patient for a spa day, meal out or weekend retreat, childcare during treatment, a wig for those who have lost their hair, buying groceries for someone struggling – anything to put a smile on their faces and help them live life with purpose, hope and joy. These seemingly small things make such a difference and can be so big in the eyes of those going through the trauma of breast cancer.

People really need support. And after my own journey, this is a cause so close to my heart, so every donation is greatly appreciated. Please partner with me to put a smile on people’s faces. Thank you so much!
