To help Diana Gosse with medical expenses

Hi, my name is Tanya, and I am fundraising for Diana Gosse to help with medical expenses.

In January 2022, Diana was diagnosed with Papillary Thyroid Cancer. She underwent a total thyroidectomy and a central and right neck dissection to remove cancerous lymph nodes. After surgery, it was discovered that Diana has a Tall Cell Variant, an aggressive form of PTC; this means tumor recurrence and higher rates of spread.

A neck scan revealed a mass in the upper right neck, which was initially thought to be benign; however, once biopsied, it was found cancer had metastasized from the thyroid and spread to the upper neck. It was also determined the tumor was in a problematic location, nestled inamongst sensitive nerves and blood vessels, making it complicated to remove. The news became worse when it was explained that surgery could damage critical nerves, which could cause permanent swallowing issues, which could mean a feeding tube and loss of facial muscle control. At this point, Diana was faced with highly aggressive surgery and a likelihood of diminished quality of life.

She opted not to have surgery, choosing not to lose her quality of life. But this also meant she couldn't proceed with recommended radiation treatment, putting her more at risk of spread while already dealing with the possibility of tall cell variant tumor recurrence.

With some urging from family and friends, Diana set out to find if there might be another solution and was directed to a hospital in the USA. She has undergone an assessment with a renowned head and neck cancer surgeon who has assured her he can remove the mass without the earlier-mentioned risks and with no loss of quality of life. After this, she could return home and proceed with radiation treatment.

As this surgery is not covered by her provincial or work health coverage, and she does not have enough to cover the total cost, we have set out to raise funds so she may seek not a cure but a successful treatment that will allow her to move forward with her life.

She is currently not working, and the cost of all medical treatment will need to be paid "out of pocket," as well as hotel costs while she is in the USA. Most of the cost of this medical treatment has graciously and gratefully been donated, but we still need to raise a portion of the cost.

We need to raise an additional $25,000. Any help will be very greatly appreciated.
