To enable ´Memory Makers’ to help people to live their lives

Liv Sharpley, Rosie Sharpley and I are taking part in the Long Course Weekend over 6th, 7th and 8th September and, due to my recent broken arm in an accident while training, we will be doing it all again from Friday 29th -Sunday 31st August 2025! Funds raised will go towards registered charity Memory Makers - Care and Dreams. Every single donation of any size will help.

The choice of challenge is in memory of Adam Nevins who, in spite of my total lack of experience, was keen to get me involved in the cycling and triathlon world. The choice of charity is in memory of my Mum who quietly but unstintingly cared for those around her in the community and both would love it that the money raised will go towards funding fully accessible transport to get local people out and about, enjoying life.

The event is made up of the three disciplines of triathlon, but over three days.

I have trained all year to swim 1.2 miles across a reservoir, trained to bike 56 miles in hilly Nidderdale to include the dreaded and gruelling Côte de Lofthouse ascent as well as running a 10k on 8th September.

Because my arm is not yet mended from the accident, this year, Liv Sharpley has jumped into, and swum across, the freezing and choppy waters of Grimwith reservoir on my behalf, biked the 56 miles, but on Sunday 8th I will still complete the 10k run and Liv and Rosie Sharpley are doing it too.

I am overwhelmed by the kindness and understanding people have shown in the face of this hugely challenging year and all my family thank those of you who have supported our chosen charity and us in lots of different ways.

Another year of training ahead - bring it on!!
Thank you so much in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me. Memory Makers - Care and Dreams: supporting people to live fulfilled, active and independent lives.

Adam Nevins was an irrepressible proud Yorkshireman and keen supporter of triathletes. My mum, Janet Mitchell, did everything she could all her life to support people in the community - especially those who needed a little extra help. Thank you so much for helping me fly the flag for sport’s ability to help others and to mend broken lives.

This year, Liv and I both had lessons to learn to swim front crawl and have had no cycle racing experience at all. Rosie Sharpley starts it all from scratch from now for next year and I’ll be retraining a wonky arm to work again.

Wish us luck!
