To pay medical bills which insurance won’t

I never thought I would be writing this kind of message but here goes. Myself & my wife came to Dubai for 3-4 days after I got a job offer here. She would also look at the opportunities here in here field. After a couple of days of not feeling well, my wife had an episode with full body spasm. Thinking it was maybe a stroke, we spoke to the hotel staff who took her to the hospital close by. After some tests & charges of £1800 they said she needed to stay overnight at a further cost of £3000. With nothing left financially, we explained this so they sent her back to the hotel with some tablets stating she would improve in 4-5 days. I contacted the insurance people who said we could claim this back.

With our budget tight after a shocking 12 months on the last job, we decided to see what the next days could bring. After 6 days & no change, we contacted the insurance company who said they would send a doctor. He sent her straight to hospital & 6 days later, we have now been told that the insurance is invalid due to a “technicality. ” My wife cannot leave the hospital until she is well, she cannot walk and has little feeling in her legs. Doctors are doing tests but the bill is growing daily leaving us to pay.

The British Embassy says reach out to friends/family to raise funds as we cannot leave Dubai until we pay the bill. We are working with people to see what can happen but I am asking if anyone can reach into their pockets for a few £s to help. I don’t normally like to ask but we have no option with no improvement & now I am running out of options. We wanted to be in Dubai but under very different circumstances.

Please note: DO NOT take your insurance for granted. Check what you are covered for & what is NOT covered in each country as I have paid this for the last 10 years with traveling a lot & my first claim is worth nothing. Be aware. Don’t go through what we are dealing with right now!!
