Coastguards search for two missing crew after Brixham fishing boat sinks.
Coastguards are urgently search for two missing crew after a Brixham fishing boat sunk this morning. The search began at 6am this morning, November 21, when HM Coastguard received an EPIRB alert located three nautical miles off the coast at Seaford near Newhaven, from the EPIRB (emergency beacon) from the vessel.
As well as the RNLI lifeboats, the Birling Gap Coastguard Rescue Team is checking for sightings from the shore. Other fishing vessel's close to the site and those who were home in bed rushed to the area to help with the search. The Coastguard rescue helicopter based in the Solent and Kent joined the search from the sky.
One man, who was found clinging to a lifebuoy, has been recovered from the water by the Newhaven RNLI lifeboat, and has been transferred to hospital.
However the search continued for the two missing crew members after the fishing vessel Joanna C sank this morning off Newhaven in East Sussex. The search was scaled down when it was too dark to search. But a number of boats have said out longer.
The Joanna C is a 45ft scalloping vessel registered in Brixham, The vessel is owned by Derek Meredith and skippered by Nathan Clark. The names of those on the boat will not be released until the authorities have publicly named the three men.
All three men have families who are now being comforted by those in the fishing community. We have set this charity page up to allow people to donate and help with the financial aspects of the incident today.
We are also using this page to allow you to leave messages for the three families involved. Who will be comforted by your words and thoughts.
