Toby Quinn Biathlon Racing Tour

Donation protected
My name is Toby Quinn, I'm a Biathlete from Thunder Bay, Ontario. I'm currently living in Canmore, Alberta, training full time with Biathlon Alberta Training Center. As you may know, Biathlon is Europe’s most popular winter spectator sport. It combines Cross Country Skiing and Target Shooting. One of the most challenging sports to compete in and very entertaining to watch. After nearly a decade of training in the sport of biathlon, and several years being frustratingly close to qualifying for International races, I decided to make the jump and take a year away from my studies in Kinesiology at Lakehead University. I moved to Canmore to pursue full time training in the hopes of achieving my goal of qualifying for high level international races and I am thrilled to announce that this season I have qualified to represent Canada at the international level.

I'll be travelling to Germany to compete in German Junior Championships in Altenburg, as well as Alpen Cup #3 in Arber, Germany. After this I'll be spending 12 days training in Mittenwald before returning to Arber for the International Biathlon Union Junior Cup #3, and then finally heading to Junior Open European Championships in Hochfilzen, Austria. These 6 weeks in Europe will conclude with a flight back to Canada to participate in the Biathlon and Cross Country Ski National Championships, in Valcartier, QC and Vernon, BC respectively. I'm super excited to finally get international race experience, and be able to represent Canada for the first time!

Unfortunately, there is little to no funding available from within Biathlon Canada to help subsidize the cost of the tour.  In 2017, Own the Podium (one of the primary funding sources for high performance sport in Canada) cut all of their base funding to Biathlon Canada which means that even World Cup level athletes need to pay their own way to race internationally. This makes it extremely challenging for athletes to be able to finance themselves in the sport.  The cost for the 6 weeks in Germany and Austria, as well as traveling to Quebec and British Columbia will likely be around $8000 with no financial support from Biathlon Canada. Despite working part-time when possible, this is beyond my financial means, which is why I am reaching out and asking for your help in funding this trip of a lifetime opportunity. If you are interested in helping support underfunded junior sports in Canada and are in a position to make a contribution, any donation, no matter what amount, would be greatly appreciated.  I'll be doing my best to update everyone on all my travelling and racing through my Instagram account which you can find at @toby_quin, and there will be plenty of updates coming about me and the rest of my team-mates @biathlonalbertatc so feel free to follow me there if you don't already! Thank you so much for your time and consideration!
