On Sunday August 14, 2022, Tod Arthur Broman, loving husband, father, and ‘Papoo’, passed away in Stuart, Iowa at the age of 67 after battling pancreatic cancer.

Tod was born the fifth of eight children on December 13, 1954 at Fort Sill Army Base (Lawton, Oklahoma) to Dr. John A. Broman and Onnolee Beth (Anderson) Broman. Soon after, the family moved to Maquoketa, Iowa where Tod and his seven siblings spent most of their youth. Tod’s lifelong affinity for music and athletics started early in his life, singing choir in church and throughout grade school and playing football, wrestling, track, and baseball in high school.
Tod graduated Luther College with a degree in Biology. While there, he continued his two passions of athletics (wrestling) and choir (Nordic Choir). After teaching and coaching for four years at Danville High School (Iowa), Tod moved to Stuart, Iowa as the new biology teacher for the Stuart-Menlo High School (now West Central Valley). Over his 30+ proud years at the school, he created long-lasting bonds with students, student-athletes, and peers. He was deeply involved in school sports, coaching golf and wrestling. Tod also officiated football, wrestling, and baseball, and was selected to work state playoffs and tournaments in all three sports.
Most importantly, he met his wife, Deanna Dee Dirks, in 1981 and they were married on June 25, 1983. They raised two boys, Derek and Douglas. He loved his family immensely and took enormous pride in them, especially when sharing in his passions such as music, golf and cheering on Luther, the Hawkeyes, the Yankees, and the Packers. His family pride grew exponentially with the addition of grandchildren Esther (11), Hayden (3), Briar (2), and Hunter (1).

Community involvement was a cornerstone of Tod’s life; he was a member of the Stuart Rescue Unit (EMS), was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waukee, co-founded the local T-Ball league, continued to provide music in choirs and for events, served on the Stuart Planning and Zoning committee, and contributed a weekly article to the Stuart Herald.

Preceding Tod in death are his parents, Dr. John and Onnolee Broman.

To cherish his memory, Tod leaves behind his beloved wife Deanna Broman of Stuart; children Derek (Ashley) Broman of Salem, Oregon, Douglas (Victoria) Broman of Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren Esther Broman, Hayden Broman, Briar Broman, and Hunter Broman; siblings Jack Broman, Beth (Larry Rice) Broman, Steve (Donnis) Broman, Barry (Paula) Broman, Ruth Broman, Faith (Sally Christensen) Broman, Hope (Dave Mulcahy) Broman; and sister-in-law Lorinda (Kenny) Gruhlke and brother-in-law Dennis (Susan) Dirks.
