Harker Come Together Against COVID Donation Drive

Overview

Organized by the Harker Upper School Student Council, the Come Together Against COVID Donation Drive looks to achieve two goals. First, through raising money for Silicon Valley Strong, we hope to offer support to those in our local area most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Second, we hope to unite our Harker community around a common cause during these difficult times.


Who are we donating to?

Launched by San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo, the Silicon Valley Strong Fund serves as a centralized source of COVID-19 relief efforts here in Santa Clara County and beyond. Working closely with local governments, the fund offers crucial relief to residents at risk of displacement due to loss of income or illness, small businesses at risk of closure, and community organizations. Because of the exigency of the situation, requests for assistance from Silicon Valley Strong have been growing every day, and significantly more funds are needed to provide for the over 15,000 at-risk households that have applied for assistance.

Why should I donate? 

While remote learning has brought its share of challenges to both students and faculty alike at Harker, coming together to support an important cause is one of the best ways to maintain hope and a sense of community even when we’re apart. Countless families all around us are struggling to pay the bills or make rent, and by extending our support, we can show what our Harker community is capable of when we come together. 


Furthermore, to encourage participation and to celebrate our  wonderful Harker community, Student Council members and Harker faculty have committed to doing some “interesting” things as we meet certain milestone rewards. For example, Ms. Wheeler will be singing “Fifty Nifty United States,” Avi Gulati will be releasing his very first Tik Tok, and Mr. Slivka will be delivering a surprise recitation of his choice. We will be releasing the next milestone amount and rewards as the previous milestone is met. Here is the second milestone:
