Tolpuddle Martyrs Cemetery Restoration Project

Please note that donations for this project will flow through Siloam United Church in London, Canada. These funds will be dispensed as directed by the Organizing Committee to the contractors carrying out the work. Excess funds, if any, will stay with Siloam United Church to be used at their discretion. The Siloam Church was originally a Methodist Church founded by the Martyrs in 1857.

Five of the six Tolpuddle Martyrs emigrated to Ontario in the 1840’s. Their gravesites and monuments are in varying states of deterioration. The objectives of this project are to identify and rectify all such deficiencies; add and improve historical signage; and in general raise awareness of their historical significance.

The above historical plaque at Siloam Cemetery does not mention that Thomas Standfield is also buried there. Also at Siloam, George Loveless' monument is virtually illegible and has developed a lean.

At Mount Pleasant Cemetery there is no signage indicating that John Standfield and James Loveless lie within, and further, James Loveless' grave does not even have a monument. John's monument is in severe danger of falling over.

These proud and courageous men deserve our respect and gratitude! Each donation, no matter how small, will help to rectify this situation! Thank you!
