Tom & Jackie Hart

Tom was in a motorcycle wreck Saturday, January 5, 2019 while he and a friend were out on a beautiful Texas day in Fredericksburg. The Texas Hill Country is beautiful!!  He rounded a corner and a red vehicle was coming in to his lane. He moved over and his front tire hit gravel. He flipped three times before being thrown from his Harley. He was wearing a helmet and leathers, THANK GOD!  Emergency personnel arrived very quickly and he was Care flighted to University Hospital in San Antonio. This is a Trama 1 unit and is absolutely amazing. Tom is receiving great care in the ICU unit. 

Tom has three fractures on his neck and seven on his spine. One fractured is on both sides! He has 19 ribs fractured as well as a crack at the base of his skull. He had bleeding on his brain which has now stopped. The Doctors are not sure right now if he has any brain damage. 

Because all the back fractures, he has to lay flat on his back. This has caused lung/breathing issues and they have had him on a ventilator and tubes to help with drainage. This weekend they did a tracheotomy to remove the tube down his throat to prevent infection. 

Tom and Jackie have a long road ahead of them. Jackie is an elementary school teacher and has ran out of all her paid time off. Tom is self-employed and now has no income. So this means they have no money coming in. They are expecting to be at the hospital a couple more weeks and then rehab. Tom will have to wear a neck and back brace for at least 6 months once released from the Hospital. 

Jackie knows God is guiding the Doctors that are seeing Tom and she knows the power of prayer and relies on her faith to keep her strong.
