Tom Cappelletti Covid Survivor

Donation protected
Our buddy Tommy Cappelletti needs some help. My life long friend has been through hell. Truly a miracle that he is with us. His battles are far from over. The strongest guy I know was decimated. His strength, courage, and most importantly his love of family and life is why he is with us today.

Tom is employed on a contract basis. If he cannot work he is not paid.

Tom works in Manhattan and lives in Schuylerville, NY. After being sent out of NYC on March 11 to work from home, Tom began to experience symptoms of Covid 19. Over the next several weeks Toms symptoms would fluctuate in severity. He just wasn’t able to shake them - the cough, the fever, body aches. He tried several times to get tested but early on tests were only available to the very sick/ hospitalized. After a very difficult week at home with a fever, muscle and head aches and swollen lymph nodes in his neck, Tom was admitted to Saratoga hospital on April 18th. His condition worsened overnight and he was placed on a ventilator at 6 am on Sunday April 19. The next ten days he was in a fight for his life. Covid 19 had attacked and weakened his body so severely that he now battled a bacterial infection that threatened to shut down his kidneys, liver and gall bladder. The first week in ICU the doctors fought to control the infection that ravaged his body. We almost lost Tom that week.

By the grace of God, the doctors were able to get the infection under control. However, his kidneys had stopped working and he was placed on dialysis; his gall bladder was so compromised that it will need to be removed. Tom was taken off the ventilator on Sunday May 3rd. His body was so profoundly weakened from his two weeks on the ventilator that he could barely lift his arms or legs. Another 10 days in the hospital (5 in ICU) and Tom was able to leave Saratoga Hospital. It was a miracle! And yet his battle is far from over. As Tom works to regain his strength from home there are still hurdles he will need to overcome. He has numerous doctor visits to follow up on his recovery. He will need to prepare both mentally and physically for a necessary surgery to remove his gall bladder.
