Tom Fitzsimmons Memorial Teaching Award
Tom Fitzsimmons dedicated fifty years of his life to Catholic Education in Durham Region. Almost thirty of those years were spent at Denis O’Connor Catholic High School at both of its campuses: the original site, on Giffard St. in Whitby, Ontario and at the new DO’C, on Mandrake St. in Ajax, Ontario, before moving to Mons. Pereyma in Oshawa, Ont. He finished his teaching career at the DCDSB Continuing Education facility.
Tom’s life impacted countless individuals over this time: students, colleagues and countless friends. His love of people was inspiring – you could always count on Tom to stop and chat – he made time for everyone in his life and we are all better people for having known him.
When Tom passed away in June, several former students and colleagues wanted to honour his memory. To that end, I am coordinating a fundraising campaign to fund/enhance the “Tom Fitzsimmons Memorial Teaching Award” to be given annually to a deserving student who is pursuing a career in education.

For those who would like to send a cheque or e-transfer, please use the "contact me" button and I will send you my home address and email. I will coordinate the collection and give the school (DO'C) a cheque in early December.

Because this is a private award, we are not recognized as a registered charity and as such, I am sorry that we are unable to give tax receipts.
