Tom Marshall- Home, Burial, & Memorial Expenses
Donation protected
**Update---Tom passed away February 27th, 2021. He is now at peace.
In the past, I have put together fundraisers for others thru CSU page, but this one is personal. This fundraiser is for my Dad, Thomas "Tom" Marshall, Sr. At this moment he is in the last stages of battling cancer.
The funds will be used to cover burial and memorial services. Also, we are raising money to pay /reimburse contractors for renovations that were completed to make his bathroom wheelchair accessible and to build a wheelchair ramp. It will cover some of living expense since my stepmom had to quit work for a long period of time to take care of him, their only income coming in is his police retirement.
A little bit of background on Tom. He is a Charleston native growing up on Sullivan's Island and Mt. Pleasant. He graduated from Moultrie High School and went to the Police Academy and became a police officer at the age of 20. He went to work for Charleston County Police Department, then later worked for Folly Beach Public Safety (where he was acting chief for a bit) and was a Volunteer Firefighter, then onto Berkeley County Sheriffs Dept. and finally settling in at Dorchester County Sheriff Dept. as a Detective. He loved his job as a Law Enforcement Officer (LEO).
Along with being a LEO, Dad played co-ed softball, played in a pool league and umpired little league baseball for decades. He finally retired as a Detective after 40+ years. Instead of enjoying retirement life he went into the Private Investigator business with his former DC Sheriff, Ray Nash and went on to work school security for the local schools in his area and then added to the list School Crossing Guard at one of the local elementary schools. The kids could not wait to see Mr. Tom. As time went on, he slowly cut back on his jobs due to showing signs of a low form of Dementia. It was not until beginning of 2017 he retired from working all together because he knew his Dementia was getting a little worse than before and he did not want to jeopardize the safety of others.
About 11 years ago he was diagnosed with kidney cancer. His doctor removed the one cancerous kidney. Since then, he has been in remission until last year. In 2017, Dad started showing signs of a low form of Dementia. It was not until last year his dementia got worse. In 2020, we found out Dad's cancer had sprouted its ugly head on his remaining kidney and spread to his lungs.
If you would like to donate by check. Please make check payable to Charleston Services United and in the memo, section write Tom Marshall Fundraiser. Mailing address: Attn: Angel @ CSU, 668 Marina Dr., Ste A2, Charleston, SC 29492. Any and all donations would be greatly appreciated by the family.
