Thomas Michael Raspet Jr. (41) of Anderson, SC, suddenly passed away on the morning of Saturday, January 27, 2024 of an apparent heart attack. His loss is completely unexpected, and his family is profoundly saddened.
Tom was born on April 10, 1982 to Rebecca and Tom Raspet Sr. in Danbury, CT, but he grew up in Durham, NC. Tom spent his formative years as a multi-sport athlete and was named an All-American lacrosse defenseman in high school. He also enjoyed cheering for Duke Basketball and actively participating in his local church. After Tom graduated from Riverside High School in 2000 he went on to study math at Clemson University.
Tom graduated from Clemson in 2005 and then began a career in the construction industry. His work ranged from small renovations to whole home builds, and he even started and ran his own construction company. Most recently Tom poured himself into his job with Greenville County Redevelopment Authority, where he zealously championed local construction projects that benefitted the underserved community.
In 2004, while attending Clemson, Tom met Stephanie Smith. The two went on to marry in 2010 and have been blessed with four amazing children, Victoria (9), Charlotte (6), Thomas (4), and William (4). Stephanie is a local art hero, teaching at both T.L. Hanna High School and Anderson University, as well as working with various community art projects. Victoria is quickly becoming a beautiful young lady who loves reading, dancing, and playing piano. Charlotte is a creative spirit who enjoys drawing and gymnastics. The twins, Thomas and William, are becoming little dynamos who channel their energy into martial arts.
Tom was a compassionate and loving father, husband, son, brother, nephew, and friend who always lifted those around him with his lighthearted attitude. He passionately cheered for Clemson football, loved fishing, being at the beach, and spending time with family and friends. For a few years, Tom also served as a lacrosse coach for T.L. Hanna where he continued to make a difference on the field.
Tom is predeceased by Victor Raspet (paternal grandfather), Ralph Koffel (maternal grandfather), and Betty Jean Koffel (maternal grandmother). Tom is survived by Jenny Z. Raspet (paternal grandmother); Tom Raspet Sr. (father) and Paula Russo Raspet of Washington, DC; Rebecca (mother) and Steve Mills of Saluda, SC; Kevin (brother) and Palen Raspet of Annapolis, MD; Jenny (sister) and Brandon Smith of Louisville, KY; and Regina (aunt/godmother) and Jimmy Crocker of Front Royal, VA.
