Tom Sawyer Recovery Fund
Tom Sawyer is a prime example of what it means to be a selfless man. For 24 years, he served his country in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, and the Gulf War, and for the past 22 years, he has been an active member of the Hammond Police Department. Tom has achieved many accomplishments over the years, but he would be the first to tell you that his greatest accomplishment is his family. As a husband and a father of two, Tom has always made sure that his family remained his top priority, despite the long hours that the job brings.
On May 6th, 2021, Tom and his wife, Mary had tested positive for COVID-19. While his wife made a full recovery with mild symptoms, Tom needed to be admitted to the Intensive Care Unit for low oxygen and blood clots in his lungs. Over the following week, things seemed to be looking up as Tom was moved out of the ICU. He was able to breathe through an oxygen mask and communicate with his family, who could not see him due to hospital restrictions. This all changed on May 14th, when Mary received a call from her husband's nurse saying that he needed to be moved back to the ICU and be put on a ventilator.
This campaign is to support the Sawyer family as they plan for Tom's medical care, rehabilitation, and any additional costs that the family may face while adjusting to life during this time.
The Sawyer family is grateful for all the love and support that they have been receiving from their community and their loved ones. For those who are willing and able, please contribute what you can to this fundraiser. If you are not able to, the Sawyer family asks for you to keep Tom and their family in your prayers and to share this fundraiser with friends, family, colleagues, and social media.
As Tom's condition continues, we will be sure to update through this fundraiser as well. Thank you so much for your generosity and your support.
