Tom Cowden Memorial Scholarship

This Scholarship was founded in 2012, shortly after the death of our beloved oldest son Thomas "Tom" Cowden. Tom fought a two year battle with Medulloblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer and left us much too early at the age of 15. Tom was a Warrior! In his memory we give an annual Scholarship to graduating High School Seniors from Davie County, Western Rowan County or Northern Iredell County North Carolina . The wonderful people from those communities were so supportive of us during Tom's illness. Tom received treatments at St . Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis Tn, Brenner Children's Hospital in Winston-Salem NC and Levine Children's Hospital in Charlotte NC. We traveled quite a bit during Tom's Treatments and the costs were tremendous! Without the help of these communities we could not have stayed together as a family throughout the ordeal.

It is our wish to honor Tom's Memory and give back to our neighbors by providing this scholarship. The scholarship is managed by the Davie Community Foundation. We want to endow it for perpetuity and increase the value and number of scholarships given!
