Tony and Justine Reyes Kidney Transplant
Donation protected
Hey friends. Some of y’all are aware of my father’s current health troubles. For those of you who aren’t, Tony was diagnosed with kidney failure last year. He’s been enduring dialysis treatment to stay alive, initially a few times per week at a clinic and currently on a nightly basis at home. Some of you may know this is a rather difficult treatment.
Tone-cat has always been a pretty big sturdy guy so when his weight withered down to 150lbs, it was a harrowing sight; he was barely recognizable. It has been far from easy physically and of course emotionally, not to mention financially. He’s unable to work regularly, and his medications alone are costing thousands per week.
A kidney transplant is necessary in order for my dad to continue hangin with us here on earth.
There IS, however, some good news, my sister Justine is a match and has decided to make the amazing sacrifice of donating one of her kidneys to keep him going for longer.
We won’t have to shop for a loose organ on the black market after all!
They are scheduled for surgery this summer at the end of August. Recovery time should take about 8-12 weeks, so Justine will obviously have to take a major blow to her bank account during that time out of work. Our parents are already struggling even now. My mother, Guen, has been working extra hard to care of the household bills and alleviate the pressure on my dad.
Zoë will be leaving New Orleans to stay in Charleston for a month and be Justine’s caretaker. My daughter, Olivia, will be assisting us with the caretaking of my sister and father as well.
Our family (which has grown with the addition of two teenage foster children, Josie and Harrison) needs financial help during this point of difficulty. Any bit of extra dollars will be appreciated immensely.
We would also very much appreciate if y’all send prayers, positive thoughts and/or groovy vibes towards our fam. Aim ‘em especially at Justine and Tony!
