My friend Tony lost his leg below the knee due to an infected blister on his pinky toe.

It started on Thanksgiving with a blister on his left pinky toe that started to hurt more than it should. He went in on Monday Dec 2nd to urgent care to have it looked at. They referred him to the wound clinic. There they prescribed him oral antibiotics and an antibacterial cream.

On Friday Dec 6, Tony went back to the wound clinic and the doctor debrided his toe and switched to stronger antibiotics.

When he went in on December 10th, he was told that outpatient treatment wasn’t working. Tony was sent to the hospital and was informed that doctors would have to take 2 of his toes.

The first surgery was December 11th and they went in and removed the pinky toe and the next toe up to almost the ankle. Tony was put on IV antibiotics.

Doctors checked the wound on Friday Dec 13th, and said there was no new pus, and he believed the antibiotics were doing their job. The doctor stated that on Monday Dec 16th they would go in and take up to half the foot. This was to make sure the infection didn’t spread to other bones and to allow for the best possible recovery for his skin and practical functionality of the foot going forward.

On Sunday Dec 15th all labs looked good. The doctors felt confident that the infection was under control and the antibiotics did their job.

Tony was taken in for the next surgery on Monday Dec 16th only to discover that the infection was still there and had spread.

On Tuesday Dec 16th, doctors amputated Tony's left leg below the knee.

At this time they are saying it will take a year or more of physical therapy to rehab the injury.

Due to having recently started a new job, Tony is not eligible for short term disability to help replace his lost income, and will have to find a different job when he is ready to work again. These funds will help with the mounting out of pocket medical bills as well as contribute to some day to day expenses while Tony finds his "new normal" with the new challenges of everyday life for himself and his 11 year old son.

Any donation amount will help. Thank you for your consideration in advance. Please pray for a good outcome during this time.

Thank you!
