Tony G Mendoza ND Memorial Bench

Donation protected

Notre Dame Law School promises to educate "a different kind of lawyer."  With Tony G Mendoza, an '02 graduate of ND Law, it did just that.   His joyful booming voice filled courtrooms across Texas with straightforward and persuasive arguments about his clients' rights.   While he fought hard and was passionate about achieving justice for his clients, he was never shy about reminding his friends and family to slow down, smell the roses, maybe catch a fish in the morning before work . . .

Tony passed away suddenly last fall, shortly after his 40th birthday, while working at his desk in his office.  Tony left behind his new bride, Piper, as well as his loving family and countless friends.  His passing was a shock that is still reverberating deeply for those who knew and loved him.  At his funeral, his casket was draped with a deep green Notre Dame flag.  He would have loved that.

Tony G. Mendoza loved Notre Dame, its ideals, and the friends he made while attending law school there.  And we sure loved him, too.  We want to create a special place at Notre Dame where folks can gather together - or sit alone - and remember Tony and the values he left for us to cherish: friendship, family, faith and - maybe most of all - fun.

ND will erect a memorial bench with a plaque in Tony's honor somewhere on campus, with a gift of $20,000 to the University.   In order to have the bench in place by the Stanford game this fall, when Tony's family will visit ND, we need to have the funds raised by July 1st.  Please help us remember Bulldoza and reach that goal.

Also, if you contribute and you are an alumni of Notre Dame, the university will recognize your donation in your ND giving record and your donation will be counted toward your entry in the football ticket lottery.

UPDATE:  Thanks to all of your generous contributions, we have exceeded our $20K goal!!   Andy and I will be visiting campus this weekend to pick out a great spot for the bench, and will post an update once we have everything in order.  I will withdraw all of the funds from the Gofundme account and will write a check directly to the University of Notre Dame for the full amount.  We will try ensure that the excess beyond $20K will be earmarked for a deserving ND law student from Austin.  Thank you all so much and we can't wait to sit with you on this bench and remember Tony.
