Tonya's Troop takes on Leukemia

Hello there, I'm Brit and that beautiful smile pictured belongs to my mom, Tonya. If you've had the pleasure to meet my mom, you know she's one of a kind. She appreciates life's small gifts like watching a sunrise, feeding her birds, being able to be a mom to my two brothers and myself, being a "Mammaw" to my two nieces, and being a true friend.

 

After receiving a Cervical Cancer diagnosis back in December of 2018, she fought back undergoing surgery, chemo, and radiation until she received a remission status in the Spring of 2019. Two months ago, mid-August, after one of her routine quarterly check-ups, it was discovered that we'd have a larger battle ahead with her Leukemia diagnosis.

 

Since August she has taken on two phases of aggressive Chemo with extended hospital stays, an unmeasurable amount of emotional & mental strain, and physical exhaustion going "round 2" with Leukemia. We are two months and counting where she's been unable to work without a solid estimate of when she'll be able to return to work. My Mom's short-term disability unfortunately does not provide full pay and some of her medical expenses aren't even covered. This Leukemia battle combined with the everyday necessities of life, has made money tighter and tighter.

 

My mom is one of the strongest, hardworking individuals I have ever known. She fights. It's what she does. I can honestly say she gave me that same drive she has. Just this will to live and to live well. I know she will beat this, and I'll do whatever I can to make sure she's able to.
