UPDATE 8/14: TOP SURGERY IS ON OCTOBER 23RD AND I AM SO CLOSE TO MY FUNDRAISER GOAL! THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH!!
I am so thankful to all helping me raise funds!! My consultation is today and with my current insurance, as long as I am able to schedule before end of year and with prior authorization, surgery will cost much less than I expected! So I just need to raise a little bit more money to help! I will be updating when the surgery date is scheduled soon!!!
TL;DR I am raising money for top surgery :)
Hey! For those of you who see this and don't know me, my name is Conrad! I am a small town Minnesota boy now living in the big city of Minneapolis!
In 2018, I came out for the first time as queer, which resulted in losing my church community and many friends. After more self-exploration, I finally came out as trans and started my transition in 2019 - the day before I moved from my small hometown in Minnesota to Fargo, ND. Like many other LGBTQ folks before me, I had to leave my hometown for my safety due to the rise of hateful rhetoric about trans people.
It is from Fargo that many of the folks seeing this know me from! While in Fargo I started testosterone and I started participating in local activism. I am so proud of the man I became while living there, as well as the things I did - like helping to advocate for Fargo's hate crimes law which was enacted in June of 2021, leading as the Fargo-Moorhead Pride Grand Marshall, and organizing a 1000+ member protest within 6 hours of Roe v Wade being overturned.
It was also in Fargo that I experienced some of the worst bigotry in my life so far, including threats of violence and insurance based medical bigotry forcing me to cancel a top surgery consultation I was supposed to have in 2021.
But now here I am with good news! This last summer I moved to Minneapolis! In Minneapolis I have found a new job that I love, and I'm making new friends fast! I have even gotten back into activism, having helped organize a rally on March 9th to celebrate and defend trans lives.
And now I have an appointment for a consultation with a top surgeon set for July 19th, with surgery likely in September after that!
So here is why I started this gofundme: I currently have insurance through the state, but this is set to change in May. My new insurance provider will have a larger deductible to cover the cost of surgery, and I will also be taking several weeks off of work for recovery. The money I am raising would help me to afford surgery, medications, and time off.
Anything raised above what is needed and any leftover money I don't use will be paid forward to other transition funds ❤️
Thank you!
